Trojans Surge Past Cougars in Dominant CL Victory
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Taylor dominated on the road against Saint Francis (8-21, 2-14 CL), taking the match in three sets behind a team-hitting percentage of .245, which was its second-best mark in Crossroads League play, behind only a .291 percentage against Saint Francis earlier this season.
Four Trojans delivered seven or more kills, led by Sarah Scott, Gracie Conway, and Reagan Salzbrenner with nine apiece. Grace Ieremia had fewer than the previously mentioned players, but the junior notched seven kills on only nine swings for an unbelievable .778 hitting percentage. Ieremia added three blocks to her impressive numbers in the match.
McKaylah Flagle continued her march towards 1,000 digs, collecting 15 in the match as well as a team-leading two service aces. The sophomore now sits at 925 digs throughout her first two collegiate seasons at Taylor.
TU began the match strong, striding out to a 9-4 lead on the back of five kills. The opening set continued in the Trojans' favor, as the offense hit an outstanding .435 to dispatch the Cougars 25-17.
The second set was back-and-forth to begin before Taylor (14-17, 4-12 CL) used a 7-2 run, which began with a 4-0 run, that erased any doubt of going up two sets to none.
The Trojans raced to another early lead in the third frame until Saint Francis closed the gap to 14-13. TU inched the lead back up to four and then took the final three points to close the book on the match and return to Odle Arena with another crucial Crossroads League victory. The TU offense was dominant again in the final set, putting up 13 kills and a .312 hitting percentage.
Taylor returns home to take on Goshen (8-22, 0-16 CL) on Friday, October 27, inside Odle Arena, with the match set to begin at 7:00 pm.
