HARTFORD CITY, Ind. – Taylor University freshman, Alex Berends, was named the Crossroads League Female Runner of the Week for the third time in as many races to open her collegiate career.
Berends finished third of 312 competitors at the 32-team NAIA Preview on October 11, scoring the third-fastest time in Taylor history with a mark of 18:13.
The performance was nearly enough to help the No. 7 Trojans claim the team championship, as Berends highlighted TU's sixth-fastest team time in program history and helped the Trojans finish in second place and only three points shy of No. 3 Dordt in the standings.
The honor is the third for Berends this season and gives Taylor a total of 22 weekly award winners from the Crossroads League and MFSA in the 2014-2015 year.
Berends and the Trojans will be back in action on October 25, when they travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan, to defend their Great Lakes Invitational title from 2013.
