TU Baseball Leads NAIA with 10 Scholar-Athletes

KANSAS CITY – The Taylor University baseball team claimed 10 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors to tie for the highest total in the nation, as recently announced by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

In order to be named an NAIA Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.50 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved junior academic status at their current institution.

Jared Adkins, Charles Brads, Rob Fox, Kyle Kelsheimer, Josh Lane, Matt Patton, Collin Stump, Nathan Targgart, Tanner Watson and Sam Wiese were among the 411 baseball student-athletes from around the nation to be named as 2018 NAIA Scholar-Athletes and were 10 of the 36 student-athletes from the Crossroads League to be recognized.

Taylor's 10 NAIA Scholar-Athletes matched William Woods for the most in the nation, giving the Trojans a top-two total for the second-straight year.

In addition to the success in the classroom, Taylor set a program record with a 44-16 overall record, hosted the NAIA Opening Round for the first time in program history and won a game in the Opening Round for the fifth time in program history.
