KANSAS CITY – Junior infielder Mason David of the Taylor baseball team landed a spot on the 2024 NAIA All-American Third Team. The NAIA announced its 2024 Baseball All-America teams on Wednesday afternoon.
David was a pillar as TU's third baseman throughout the entire season, ending the year as the Trojans' only player to start in all 58 games.
The third baseman found himself scattered among the league leaders in most hitting categories, following a campaign in which David hit for a .364 average, notched an on-base percentage of .471 and slugged a team-best .617.
Helping produce those totals were David's league-high 21 doubles that went along with 76 total hits, 10 homers, 52 RBIs and 68 runs scored. The Bloomington, Ind., native's total hits, doubles and runs scored on the season all finished among the 10 best single-season totals in those respective categories in program history.
David finished the season on a tear, reaching safely in 18 consecutive games to wrap up his year. That stretch included a 10-game hitting streak, and it helped David end the season having gotten on base safely in 53 of 58 contests.
Those remarkable numbers, combined with being the top player on No. 17 Taylor's Crossroads League Championship, 42-win squad, led to David being named the CL Player of the Year. That honor went along with being named First-Team All-Crossroads League as well as the Gold Glove recipient among third basemen.
