JACKSON, Mich. – Taylor first baseman Sam Gladd claimed the title of Crossroads League Player of the Week, announced Monday, for performances from March 10-16.
Gladd led the Trojans to a perfect 6-0 week, beginning with a four-homer doubleheader on Monday, March 10, versus Huntington, the last of which walked off the Foresters to cap a series sweep.
The junior continued to produce monstrous stat lines throughout a week that saw TU score 99 runs – over 16 runs per game. Gladd finished the week, which included a sweep over Spring Arbor, totaling six home runs, three doubles, 15 RBIs, 12 runs scored and five walks for a .545 batting average and 1.500 slugging percentage over the six contests.
On the season, Gladd is tied-fourth in the NAIA in home runs, while he leads the Crossroads League in that category and is second in the league in both slugging percentage (.852) and runs batted in (34).
The Columbia City, Indiana, native is now a three-time CL Player of the Week, including having taken the honor earlier this season for the week of Feb. 17-23.
No. 18 Taylor (21-4, 12-0 CL) looks to continue its historic start to the season when it hosts Mount Vernon Nazarene (17-7, 7-5) at Winterholter Field beginning Friday, March 21.
