Trojans Fall at No. 3 IWU in Battle for MSFA Mideast Lead
MARION, Ind. – Taylor traveled the short drive across Grant County on Saturday to challenge No. 3 Indiana Wesleyan in a clash for the top spot in the MSFA Mideast League standings. The teams traded touchdowns on their first drives, before IWU took control and rolled to the 56-7 victory.
After the Wildcats (7-1, 2-0 MSFA) scored on the first drive of the afternoon, David Worlds took the following kickoff back for 59 yards. Taylor then got successive runs of five, 25, eight and two yards from Jameson Chesser, before Kyle Turanchick punched in the equalizer from one yard out to knot the score at 7-7 with 10:48 left in the quarter.
That would be TU's last score of the contest however, as Indiana Wesleyan scored the final seven touchdowns of the game to pull away.
Taylor finished the game with just 147 total yards of offense, while IWU countered with 517.
Chesser provided much of that total with 97 rushing yards on 20 carries, and Turanchick added 34 rushing yards and the lone Taylor score of the day.
Aven Jones posted his sixth game of the season with at least 10 tackles, leading the Trojans once again with 14 stops, while Jacob Hockett ended with nine tackles.
The loss drops Taylor to 5-2 on the season and 1-1 in league play, with both losses coming to Top-10 foes. The Trojans will look to bounce back on Saturday, October 26, then they host Lawrence Tech (1-5, 0-1 MSFA) in a 1:00 pm start at Turner Stadium.
