UPLAND, Ind. - Taylor will close its regular season on Saturday, when it welcomes Concordia to Turner Stadium for a 12:00 pm start on Senior Day.
SCOUTING TAYLOR: The Trojans will honor their 16 seniors prior to Saturday's regular season finale at Turner Stadium. TU will look to send the seniors out on a high note, seeking to reach nine wins in a single season for the second time in program history and the first since winning 10 games in 1999. Taylor is also looking to cap a historic offensive campaign, having already broken its single-season scoring record.
SCOUTING CONCORDIA: With CU discontinuing all athletics at the end of the 2024-2025 academic year, Saturday will mark the final football outing in the 14-year history as a sport for the Cardinals. After a 1-4 start to the season with three losses to ranked teams, Concordia has won four of its last five.
LAST MEETING: Concordia scored the first 37 points of the day and throttled Taylor by a 54-14 margin up in Ann Arbor last season. TU turned the ball over three times and managed just 216 total yards of offense, while CU countered with 350 yards through the air with Jordan Garcia and Seeger DeGayner combining for 261 yards on 17 receptions.
SERIES HISTORY: Taylor is 6-7 all-time against Concordia on the gridiron, and 1-2 against the Cardinals under the direction of fourth-year head coach Aaron Mingo.
LAST TIME OUT: Taylor made history with a 91-28 win at Madonna, setting the MSFA and TU single-game scoring records. The Trojans also set a record with 13 touchdowns in the blowout and Lucas Shilts set the MSFA record with 13 made point-after tries.
SONNICHSEN, MANSFIELD AND SHILTS EARN MSFA HONORS: TU swept the MSFA Mideast League Athlete-of-the-Week honors for the third time this season, with Dakohta Sonnichsen, Jeremiah Mansfield and Lucas Shilts taking home the MSFA Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Player-of-the-Week nods following the Trojans' 91-28 win at Madonna. CHESSER REACHES 1K: With 120 rushing yards in TU's 91-28 win at Madonna, Jameson Chesser surpassed 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Chesser became just the sixth player in Taylor history to reach that mark and the first to do so since 2008. Chesser will enter Saturday at 1,043 rushing yards on the season, good for the sixth-most in program history and just 84 away from third all-time on TU's single-season charts.
RED-ZONE DAMAGE: Taylor has round the end zone on 83-percent of its trips to the red zone this season, ranking third in the NAIA in that statistic. In 59 trips to the red zone through 10 games, TU has picked up 49 touchdowns.
CAUSING HAVOC: While nearly all of the attention this season has gone to TU's record-setting offensive performance, the Trojan defense has been disrupting opposing attacks at a furious pace. Entering the season's final week, TU leads the NAIA with 39 sacks and is sixth with 14 fumbles recovered. In addition to the 39 sacks, Taylor has averaged 2.6 takeaways per contest.
WINNING THE TURNOVER BATTLE: Through its first 10 games of the season, Taylor is plus-11 in turnovers, having won or tied the turnover margin in all but two contests.
JONES PACING THE NAIA: Taylor's Aven Jones enters the final week of the regular season leading the entire NAIA with 121 total tackles and sits second at 12.1 tackles per game. Jones has had at least nine hits in all 10 games this season, posting at least 10 in all but one.
LIGHTING UP THE SCOREBOARD: With 58, 52 and 67 points in successive wins against Olivet Nazarene, Judson and Kentucky Christian, Taylor made history by putting at least 50 points on the scoreboard in three-straight games for the first time in program history. TU has scored at least 34 points in all but one of its 10 games this season and has scored at least 50 points in six-of-10 outings. With its scoring average of 51.2 points per game, the Trojans rank third in the NAIA and will comfortably shatter the program's previous scoring record of 38.0 points per game set in 2015.
RUNNING WILD: Through the first 10 games of the season, Taylor has surpassed 300 yards rushing in seven of those contests. TU's 314.4 rushing yards per game this season rank the Trojans No. 2 in the NAIA, while their 53 rushing touchdowns lead the NAIA by a nine-score gap.
TROJANS IN THE NAIA RANKS: There are also multiple Trojans ranking near the top of the NAIA, as Aven Jones leads the NAIA with 121 total tackles and 77 solo tackles and is second with 12.6 hits per game, Jeremiah Mansfield ranks second with 12.0 sacks and three fumble recoveries, David Worlds ranks second with three fumble recoveries, Jameson Chesser is fourth with 19 rushing touchdowns, fourth with 122 points and ninth with 1,043 rushing yards and Carter Loveless is 10th with 40.1 yards per punt.
