RV Taylor Cruises to 8-0 Victory, Extends Winning Streak to Six
SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – Taylor University's women's soccer team delivered its most dominant performance of the season, routing Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College 8-0 on Wednesday afternoon to extend its perfect start to 6-0-0.
The victory marked Taylor's sixth consecutive win and fifth shutout of the season, matching the program's 6-0-0 start from three years ago. The Trojans entered Wednesday as one of just 13 unbeaten teams remaining nationally and have received votes in the latest coaches' poll.
Eliza Luttrell and Leah McQuade spearheaded the offensive explosion, each scoring twice in a balanced team performance. Luttrell recorded six points with two goals and two assists, setting up both of McQuade's scores. The duo now shares the team lead with five goals apiece.
TU established control early, building a 3-0 first-half advantage on McQuade's two volley strikes and Luttrell's opening goal. Ava Makedos capped the first-half scoring with her first goal of the season, assisted by Ruah Havens for her first collegiate point.
The Trojans maintained the relentless pace after halftime, with Luttrell adding her second goal in the 46th minute and Libby Thomas scoring three minutes later. Lydia Bailey and Mairin Carpenter completed the scoring with late strikes in the 84th and 88th minutes, both recording their first goals of the season.
TU's pace overwhelmed the hosts, with the Trojans outshooting Saint Mary-of-the-Woods 37-2 overall while putting 23 attempts on target. The Pomeroys managed just two total shots in the lopsided affair.
Goalkeeper Ava Callaway earned her first career start between the posts, while Marisa Reinhard also logged her first minutes in goal this season.
The victory showcased the depth of TU's squad, with 11 different players having now contributed goals through six matches this season.
TU returns to Turner Stadium on Friday to host Cornerstone at 7 p.m., seeking to extend its perfect start and winning streak to seven matches.
