Bio

The 2025 season is Chad Newhard’s sixth as the head men’s lacrosse coach at Taylor University and his ninth on staff at TU.

Newhard’s first season with the men’s lacrosse program was cut short after only three contests due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the spring of 2020.

A full season in 2021 saw Newhard’s squad receive votes in the NAIA Top-10 Poll, score its first win over a team ranked or receiving votes in that poll and posted a program-best three-game win streak. The team ranked among the NAIA’s best in a host of categories, including No. 8 with 226 total points, No. 8 with 92 assists and No. 13 with 134 goals in 15 games.

Newhard again guided the Trojans to a strong campaign in 2024, setting a new program record with four-straight wins, receiving votes in the NAIA Top-10 Poll and upending a pair of RV teams in Mount Vernon Nazarene and Madonna.

Prior to taking the reins of TU men’s lacrosse, Newhard spent three years on staff at Taylor as an assistant coach for the baseball program, helping the Trojans to a record of 117 wins to just 55 losses during that span.

Before coming to Upland, Newhard spent seven seasons as the head baseball coach at Indiana Wesleyan University, where he left with the second-highest win total in program history and saw two student-athletes advance to play professionally.

In addition to his coaching experiences on the diamond at Taylor and IWU, Newhard has also coached collegiately at Defiance College, Tabor College and IPFW.

Newhard owns a bachelor’s degree in sports studies from Grace College and a master’s degree in secondary education with a concentration in organizational leadership and supervision from IPFW.

Newhard and his wife, Karen, have a son, Nicholas, and a daughter, Selah.
