ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Trojans dropped two on Friday at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri, as Taylor's potent offense never really was able to get going in a 1-0 loss to No. 23 Davenport and a 5-2 setback to Lindenwood-Belleville.
Game one with Davenport lasted just over an hour in what was very much so a pitcher's duel between the Panthers' Emily Maves and Taylor's Hannah Robbins. One run would be all that Davenport would need to win this one, as Maves allowed just two hits and a walk while striking out eight Trojans in the full seven innings of work.
Robbins earned the hard-luck loss, conceding just four hits while striking out two in six innings pitched. With two outs recorded in the fourth inning, Davenport was able to produce two consecutive doubles off Robbins to plate what turned out to be the winning run.
Alex Lovelace went 1-3 in the contest from the plate with a single in the first inning, Jessica Britt had a walk in the second inning, and Lauren Ehle had a one-out single in the seventh to account for TU's only baserunners in the contest against the tough pitching from Maves.
In game two, Taylor batted second as the home team on the neutral field against Lindenwood-Belleville and the two teams each produced a run in the opening inning to get things started. Ehle had a two-out triple in the bottom half of the inning and came around to score for the equalizer on a Davis Carter RBI single.
Lindenwood-Belleville would get to Taylor starting pitcher Maddie Cornell in the fourth and fifth inning however with a total of four runs to seize a 5-1 advantage. The Lynx played small-ball and were able to score three in the fifth. Morgan Allison belted her second solo homerun of the season in the sixth inning for the Trojans, but Taylor was unable to overcome the deficit in the final two innings.
Taylor once again saw an opposing pitcher go the distance, as Michele Pilster struck out five and allowed just the two runs on nine hits to pick up the win for Lindenwood-Belleville. The sophomore Cornell also pitched a complete game in the loss, allowing five runs, nine hits and just one walk while striking out three.
Taylor was able to produce nine hits in the contest but only two were of the extra-base variety, and the Trojans stranded seven baserunners as Pilster was often able to find a way out of potential trouble.
Lovelace was 2-of-4 from the plate with a double, and Ehle also went 2-of-4 with a run scored. Carter was 1-3 with her second RBI of the day. Robbins went 2-of-3, and Allison finished 1-3 with the solo shot in the sixth.
Taylor (5-3) will get the opportunity to square off with both teams once more tomorrow, as the Trojans play Davenport at 12:00 pm EST and then conclude the weekend against Lindenwood-Belleville at 4:00 pm EST.
