Rastetter Sets Career Walks Mark | McCreary Throws Runner Out At Third
UPLAND, Ind. – Aleyah Rastetter was honored along with fellow seniors Jersey Tannehill and Makenna Ricker before the doubleheader against Huntington. The festivities provided light on a tough day on the diamond, with Taylor being shut out in a pair of losses by the scores of 6-0 and 9-0.
Rastetter provided another reason for joy by walking in her first plate appearance. The walk gave the senior the Taylor program record with 77 free bases in her four years. Rastetter was solid at the plate delivering three base knocks along with the walk. Kaylee Larkin also tallied three hits in the twin-billing.
Taylor (25-19, 17-13 CL) could not get any of their eleven baserunners to cross the plate in a 6-0 defeat in the opener.
Both sides left runners on base in the opening two frames before a bloop single to right started a two-out rally for the Foresters. Two more hard hits gave Huntington a 2-0 lead.
The Trojans saw their best chance to score come to an abrupt end in the bottom of the fourth when Rastetter laced a single to left with runners on first and second. Brooke Sanchez tried to test the defense and got thrown out at the plate. The play demoralized TU as the next eight TU batters went down.
Huntington (22-24, 14-18 CL) added four in the top of the sixth to take a comfortable 6-0 lead.
Taylor loaded the bases with three singles from the top three batters in the lineup with two outs. The rally was cut short, and TU went down without scoring in the opener.
The second game was more of the same as Taylor had nine runners reach base, but not a single one could get another 60 feet to second.
Delaynee McCreary had a terrific play in left field in the second game. The sophomore made a catch and then threw out a runner at third for her fifth outfield assist of the season.
The Foresters scored in the second and did not stop from there, having a runner cross the plate in every inning after to eventually win 9-0 in six innings.
Taylor is back home on Monday, April 22, to face No. 8 Marian (35-9, 25-7 CL), with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 pm.
