INDIANAPOLIS – Taylor dropped its final two games of the regular season on Saturday against No. 8 Marian (41-9, 29-7 CL) on the road.
The Trojans' offense was unable to keep up scoring three runs in the doubleheader to fall 6-2 and 8-1 against the Crossroads League champions.
The Knights raced out to a lead in their first plate appearance in both outings and led the rest of the way in both games.
Delaney Barton was stellar at the plate in her only start on the day, lacing two hits, with one going for extra bases. Barton scored a run and drove one in as TU scored in back-to-back innings in the fifth and sixth.
Madisyn Standridge delivered the biggest hit of the day for the Trojans in the nightcap, going deep in the top of the fifth to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Taylor (25-25, 17-19 CL) loaded the bases in the sixth but was unable to capitalize, leaving the bases juiced on a sharp lineout.
Katie Kottlowski came in relief in both games and continued her late-season surge with two scoreless outings over three-and-a-third innings inside the circle. The lefty allowed two hits and struck out one for a solid pair of appearances.
Taylor begins postseason play on Tuesday, April 30, in the Crossroads League Tournament play-in games. A matchup with Saint Francis (21-28, 14-22 CL) is set for 4:00 pm at Spring Arbor, with the winner entering the double elimination section of the bracket and the loser closing the book on their season.
