RV Taylor Drops Pair Of Games At Bear Creek Tournament
WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – After multiple changes to its schedule, as well as a switch in venue, RV Taylor competed in two games at the Bear Creek Tournament, suffering defeats in both contests. The Trojans fell to University of Rio Grande, 4-2, in their first game, before giving up 11 straight runs in an 11-1, five-inning loss to host University of the Cumberlands.
Kara Tucker put together a strong afternoon at the plate for TU, hitting three-for-six and scoring a run, while Caitlyn Grim and Ashton Whitman both finished with two hits in five at-bats.
Kristin Mihalic collected her 13th run batted in of the season against the Red Storm (1-0) to increase her team-leading RBI total, while Taylor Wilson knocked in her first run of the campaign with a double in the opening contest.
After the Red Storm opened the scoring in the top of the third, Mihalic's RBI single in the bottom of the fourth tied the game at one run apiece. However, a three-run shot in the top of the fifth gave Rio Grande a lead they would not relinquish. Wilson's RBI double in the bottom half of the frame trimmed the Red Storm lead to two runs, but Taylor was unable to get any closer.
Lauren Kanai (2-2) put together a solid outing for TU, striking out seven in five innings of work.
Maddi Evans drove in the Trojans' lone run against the Patriots (3-4), scoring Tucker with an RBI single in the first inning, but Cumberlands controlled the contest from there, using a seven-run fourth frame to secure the run-rule triumph.
Taylor (6-4) will be back in action this coming weekend with a four-game set against Union College (3-1) in Barbourville. The first doubleheader will begin on Friday at 1:00 pm.
