Bio

Doug Gower enters his 21st season of coaching softball and is serving as TU's interim head coach for the second-straight season after being an assisant coach in 2023. The 2025 season is Gower's 19th as a head coach at the collegiate level.

Prior to coming to Taylor, Gower was the head coach for 17 years at Huntington University and built strong teams’ year in and year out. Gower spent the 2022 season as the assistant at Saint Francis.

In 2016, Gower’s squad punched a ticket to the NAIA National Tournament for the second time in program history and finished with a program-best 37 wins while claiming second in the conference regular season standings. In 2011, Gower was tabbed conference Coach of the Year as voted on by his peers.

During Gower’s tenure, his players have earned 51 All-Conference honors including the 2011 and 2016 Crossroads Pitcher of the Year along with the 2012 Crossroads Player of the Year and 2017 Newcomer of the Year. Gower has had 29 athletes named NAIA Scholar Athletes throughout his time at Huntington and Taylor.

Before taking over the reins at Huntington, Gower served as an assistant in the program for three years. His coaching resume also includes experience at the high school level. He spent a year as the head baseball coach at Canterbury where he was named the MAC Coach of the Year. He also spent a few years as an assistant coach at Canterbury and Huntington North.

Gower, a 1982 graduate of Huntington, was a four-year member of the Forester baseball team where he played second and third base.

He and his wife Wendy have three children, Brittany, Brandi and Brock.
