Early Offense Not Enough as Trojans Drop a Pair Against Saint Francis
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – A pair of early leads disappeared for Taylor on Wednesday against Saint Francis (16-6, 9-3 CL) in 7-6 and 10-1 losses on the road.
Livie Lehmann gave the Trojans a great start to the day with a three-run home run in the top of the first, her eighth of the season. An RBI double by Emri Agre pushed the lead to 4-0 in the early going.
The Cougars plated a pair on a long ball in the third before Delaynee McCreary answered with a two-out bases-loaded single to drive in a pair and restore the four-run advantage.
A three-run lead for TU evaporated in the bottom of the sixth as Saint Francis scored three runs aided by a defensive miscue to level the game at six, and a two-out walk-off double gave the Cougars a comeback win in the opener.
Kaylee Larkin drove in the Trojans' lone run of the nightcap with an RBI single in the first to give Taylor early hope of earning a split.
Saint Francis scored a pair in the second before blowing the game open with a five-run third, including three unearned runs, and tacked on three more in the fourth to put the game to bed early via the run rule in the fifth.
Bella Browning continued her terrific freshman season with three hits in the opener and a walk in her only plate appearance in the nightcap.
Taylor (18-8, 9-5 CL) completes its non-league portion of the schedule with a doubleheader against Calumet (7-15, 2-0 CCAC) on Friday, March 28, with first pitch coming at 5:00 pm.
