Bradbury's Double-Double Propels TU to Big Win
UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor women's basketball team jumped out to a blazing start on Saturday, outscoring Governor State, 31-13, in the opening quarter, before going on to top the Jaguars, 76-45, inside Odle Arena. The win moved Taylor to 7-5 on the year.
The Trojans exploded on a 20-4 run over the first five minutes of the game after sophomore Cassidy Wyse started the scoring frenzy just four seconds into the contest with a quick lay-up off the opening tip. TU led by as many as 19 in the opening quarter after freshman Kendal Bradbury scored 11 points and had four rebounds in the first ten minutes of play.
Leading 31-13 at the beginning of the second quarter, the Trojan offense cooled off. TU converted on just two of its 10 shot attempts and had 10 turnovers. Despite the struggling second-quarter offense, the Trojans continued to hold the Jaguars in check, allowing just eight points, and forcing Governor State to turn the ball over eight times in the final 10 minutes before the half.
Out of halftime, sophomore Josie Cobb knocked down a three-pointer to spark a 12-2 run for the Purple and Gold to begin the second half. The Trojans received scoring from five different players during the run, increasing the lead to 53-23 with 4:04 remaining in the third quarter.
Governor State was unable to cut the Taylor lead to anything below 29 points the remainder of the game, but managed to outscore the Trojans, 16-13, in the fourth quarter.
TU capitalized on Governor State turnovers, scoring 23 points off the Jaguars' miscues. The 23 points scored off turnovers helped lead to 48 points scored by the Trojans in the paint.
Bradbury finished the game with a double-double, scoring a career-high 24 points and grabbing ten rebounds. The Highlands Ranch, Colorado native knocked down all nine of her free throw attempts and shot 70 percent (seven-of-10) from the field. Wyse added 12 points and five rebounds for TU, while senior Emma Brattain chipped in 11 points and also finished with five boards.
Taylor will be back in action on Tuesday when the team travels to Notre Dame, Indiana to take on Holy Cross. TU will return to Odle Arena for its Taylor Christmas Class on December 30-31. The Trojans will open up the classic against Wilberforce at 6:00 pm.
