AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League announced its weekly awards on Monday, naming Alex Berends as the Women's Track Athlete of the Week. This is the third consecutive week a member of the Taylor women's track and field team has landed a weekly nod from the League, and it is Berends's second honor in as many weeks.
Berends took two victories at the Indiana Little State Championships over the weekend, winning the 1,500-meter and picking up a win as a member of the women's 4x800-meter relay. In the 4x8, Berends, along with Rachel Blagg, Margie Crosby and Anna Souzis, turned in a time of 9:27.10, which hit the NAIA 'B' standard. That qualifying time marks the seventh consecutive season that the Trojans will compete in that event on the national stage. In the 1,500-meter run, Berends bested the field of 30 runners with a time of 4:44.05 to take top honors.
Next weekend, Berends and the Trojans will take part in the two-day Hillsdale Invitational in Hillsdale, Michigan.
