Tight Sets to Start Go Against Taylor in Defeat to RV Bethel
UPLAND, Ind. – A back-and-forth battle in the first two sets against RV Bethel (18-3, 7-3 CL) went against Taylor before succumbing in the third for a three-set defeat against the Pilots.
The Trojans battled throughout the opening set despite trailing for most of it. A kill by Reagan Kleiman capped a 5-0 run that put TU in the lead 20-18. Bethel tied it up at 22 before taking the final three points on kills to secure the opener.
Taylor (11-11, 2-8 CL) was in another dogfight in the second and created some breathing room with a 20-16 lead, which forced the Pilots to take a timeout. Bethel stormed back to tie the match, but two consecutive kills by Reagan Salzbrenner set Taylor up with a late 23-21 lead. Bethel took their final timeout and swung the momentum to take the set with four unanswered points.
The third set got out of hand quickly, and the Trojans were unable to recover, falling 25-17.
Lindsay Springer had a great match with 36 assists and two service aces as she continues to shine in the setter role. Salzbrenner came on in the second set and was a breath of fresh air, delivering seven kills in the final two frames on 18 swings.
Defensively, a trio of Trojans put up double-digit digs, with McKaylah Flagle leading the way with 17 while Jen Springer and Chloe Holtz each had 11 of their own.
Taylor will be back on the court for a road match against Spring Arbor (11-10, 5-5 CL) on Wednesday, October 4th, with the match set to begin at 7:00 pm.
