Trojans Dispatch Maple Leafs in Sweep
GOSHEN, Ind. – The Taylor volleyball team (8-14, 3-7 CL) started the second half of its Crossroads League season with a clean sweep of Goshen (6-20, 1-9) on the road Wednesday evening.
The victory made it 14 straight wins in the series for Taylor, 12 of which have come via traditional 3-0 sweeps.
TU set the tone from the opening serve, holding a lead as large as 12 points in a 25-16, first-set win. The Trojans had 19 kills on a .357 percentage through the first frame alone, with Grace Ieremia notching five of them and Reagan Kleiman, Jaylynn Dunsmore, Lindsay Springer and Ava Kraft tallying three apiece.
Tied at 16, the second set proved to be much more competitive. Taylor closed on a 9-4 run, however, taking the set 25-20 to bring on a chance for a sweep.
The Trojans – fueled by another dominant frame from Ieremia – completed the sweep with an eight-point win in the third set. The match was capped by an ace from TU's setter, Springer, her second of the night.
Ieremia concluded the evening with a match-high 14 kills and .650 hitting percentage. Kraft and Dunsmore helped Taylor's offensive attack with nine and six kills, respectively.
McKaylah Flagle led the Trojans with 14 digs, while Jen Springer neared a double-digit effort with nine digs. Senior Chloe Holtz added four digs to reach 500 in her career.
Both Lindsay Springer and Ieremia had three block assists, as the former also generated a match-high 32 assists on the offensive end.
Taylor closes out its road trip on Saturday at 3 p.m. with a match against No. 16 Mount Vernon Nazarene (21-2, 8-2 CL).
