Three-Point Barrage Powers Trojans Over the Century Mark in Win Against Saint Francis
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Trojans had their best performance of the season with an outstanding 100-74 victory over Saint Francis, in which TU splashed home 18 triples.
The 18 three-pointers were two shy of the program record and the most since 2018 when TU hit 18 against Lincoln Christian. The team shot 40 of 61 from the field for an incredible 65.6 percent, which is the program's best mark since 2014.
A quartet of Trojans combined for the 18 triples, with each of Kaden Fuhrmann, Jackson Ullom, Izaiah Day, and Caleb Hodgson making three-or-more from beyond the arc. Fuhrmann led the team with six to push him to a game-leading 30 points, with 22 coming after halftime. Ullom hit five en route to a career-high 21 points on an efficient ten shots. Day and Hodgson each hit a trio of triples to round out the high-flying performance from downtown.
Jackson Lewis was the main distributor, dishing out a career-high eight assists and making all three of his shots for six points.
The barrage of triples was supplemented by a dominant performance down low from Anton Webb, who tallied his third-consecutive double-double with 17 points and ten rebounds. Webb added a pair of blocks and assists, with a steal to stuff the stat sheet.
Saint Francis (11-9, 4-6 CL) took an early lead, and while Taylor kept it close every time they got within a possession, the Cougars answered with a bucket of their own to keep the lead.
A basket by Wes Hunt, who pitched for the baseball team in Arizona under 48 hours ago, gave TU its first lead of the game and was part of seven straight points to end the half with a 45-42 advantage.
The Trojans' offense picked up where it left off and hit 16 of their first 17 shots to begin the second half, including seven from beyond the arc. The torrid start after halftime gave TU a commanding 83-62 lead.
Taylor cleared the bench with over a minute remaining, and a basket from Grant Jones put 100 on the scoreboard to cap the terrific outing. The Trojans committed a season-low five turnovers in the win as the offense was clicking on all cylinders.
TU (8-12, 3-7 CL) hopes to continue its hot shooting when it returns to Odle Arena for a matchup against Mount Vernon Nazarene (13-7, 3-7 CL) on Wednesday, January 31, with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 pm.
