Fuhrmann Splashes in 17 in Road Defeat
MARION, Ind. – The Trojans jumped out to an early lead before giving way to a 76-63 defeat against cross-county rivals Indiana Wesleyan (17-8, 7-8 CL) in a key Crossroads League matchup with seeding implications.
Anton Webb scored the first four points and provided an assist as Taylor grabbed a 10-5 advantage less than five minutes into the action, which proved their largest lead of the night.
TU stayed in front until a 12-2 run flipped the game midway through the first half. Kaden Fuhrmann drained a triple, followed by a pair of free throws by Pete Combs to trim the deficit to one.
The home squad held a narrow lead until scoring the final seven points of the half to go into the locker room with the scoreboard reading 35-25 in favor of the Wildcats.
Taylor struggled to begin the second half and found themselves down by 17 before steadily climbing back into the game and closing the gap to two after a pair of free throws by Chaz Harvey, who ended the night with 12 points and three steals.
Unfortunately, the Trojans could get no closer as the deficit ballooned to 17 again before Fuhrmann went on a heater, scoring nine of TU's final 13 points to give him a team-high 17 points and four makes from beyond the arc.
Webb was the final Trojan to finish in double figures with 12 points, nine rebounds, and three assists in the difficult defeat. Taylor falls into seventh place with the loss, a game behind Indiana Wesleyan and one ahead of both Mount Vernon Nazarene (13-12, 5-10 CL) and Marian (11-14, 5-10 CL).
Taylor (13-12, 6-9 CL) will look to bounce back on Saturday, February 15, with a matchup on the road against Goshen (5-19, 0-14 CL), with tip-off set for 3:00 pm.
