Trojans' Offense Sputters in League Defeat Against Marian
INDIANAPOLIS – The Trojans' hot shooting cooled in an 86-64 road loss against Marian (16-6, 6-6 CL) on Saturday afternoon.
After shooting 50 percent or better from distance the past two games, Taylor struggled from beyond the arc. TU connected on only five triples and shot under 22 percent, with Kaden Fuhrmann the only Trojan to make more than one.
Fuhrmann played brilliantly and continued his resurgent season with 22 points, three rebounds, two steals, and an assist. The junior has averaged 20.7 points in his last six contests, leading TU in scoring each time.
Anton Webb was second on the team in points with 12 and led the squad with six rebounds despite Taylor getting outrebounded 45-23.
The teams struggled to make a shot out of the gate, missing six combined shots before Webb opened the scoring with a jumper at the 17:26 mark.
Marian quickly made four of their next five attempts and two free throws to build an early five-point advantage over the Trojans.
Taylor's offense continued to stall, not reaching double digits until under the eight-minute mark in the half. By the time Webb made a layup for their eleventh point, Marian had extended the lead to 22.
The lead was never less than 20 from then on, as the Trojans traded baskets with the Knights throughout the second half before falling 86-64.
Taylor (9-13, 4-8 CL) is back inside Odle Arena for its next game on Wednesday, February 7, against undefeated No. 1 Grace (22-0, 12-0 CL), with tip-off set for 7:30 pm.
