Offense Struggles in Road Defeat to Spring Arbor
SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – In a vital game for Crossroads League standings, Taylor fell, 81-59, against Spring Arbor on the road on Saturday as the offense struggled to find momentum.
With the loss, TU fell a game behind SAU in the standings and sits tied with Mount Vernon Nazarene (14-10, 4-10 CL) for the eighth and final spot in the Crossroads League Tournament.
After Spring Arbor (12-12, 5-9 CL) hit a triple to start the game, an and-one from Caleb Hodgson and a bucket from Anton Webb gave Taylor its only lead of the day at 5-3.
The Cougars hit threes on their next two possessions, and the Trojans could not recover thereafter, trailing the rest of the way.
TU stayed close as Webb scored six quick points, but a 6-0 run from SAU extended the deficit to nine, and the Trojans never got within one possession the rest of the way.
Webb closed the game with a team-high 14 points and four steals, while Kaden Fuhrmann hit two shots from beyond the arc on his way to twelve points as the only other Trojan in double figures.
The Trojans shot under 40 percent from the field and under 22 percent from outside, while Spring Arbor connected on 12 triples after being unable to hit a single one in the first matchup between the squads.
Taylor (9-15, 4-10 CL) continues life on the road with a matchup against cross-county rival No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan (21-3, 12-2 CL) on Wednesday, February 14, with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 pm.
