MARION, Ind. – On the penultimate day of the outdoor track and field season, Taylor had a trio of men's athletes compete at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships Thursday, hosted by Indiana Wesleyan.
Seniors Jake Thompson (high jump) and Nate Conkel (800 meters) concluded their collegiate careers with National Championship appearances, each having represented TU in multiple Indoor or Outdoor Championships throughout the past four seasons.
Conkel started the Trojans' day at 2:50 p.m., running in the first heat of the 800 meters. The senior clocked a time of 1:52.63 to take 18th of 27 competitors overall and claim TU's third best mark of the season.
Nathan Burns, a freshman, capped Thursday for TU with a time of 15:08.27 in the 5,000 meters to finish 25th out of 38 runners, easily outperforming his 36th seed heading into the event.
Josh Forbes is the Taylor men's lone competitor lined up to participate on Friday. The sophomore hopes to build upon his second-place showing from this season's Indoor National Championships when he competes at 1 p.m. in the pole vault to wrap up the outdoor season.
