Trojans Drop a Pair of Games Against No. 11 Marian
UPLAND, Ind. – A wild, high-scoring affair tilted against the Trojans in a 13-10 loss after dropping a 9-3 game to begin the day in a light rain.
A wild second inning began the scoring as Marian tacked on five in the top of the inning, and Taylor responded with five of its own in the bottom half. The bottom of the order got things going, and Emily Guthrie scored on a fielder's choice before Emri Age slapped a single through the right side for another run. Madisyn Standridge doubled the score for Taylor with a two-RBI double down the left-field line, and Livie Lehmann capped the comeback with an RBI single.
Marian plated a pair on the fourth, and TU answered with a Standridge homer and RBI singles by Kaylee Larkin and Bella Browning to gain its first lead of the game.
The see-saw battle continued in the fifth with three runs from Marian, and Taylor waited until the sixth to knot the score at ten as Larkin homered and Jayci Kitchen drove in the tying run on a line drive to left field.
A tie game going into the seventh got away from the Trojans as the Knights scored three in the top, and a scoreless bottom of the seventh finished the game.
Runs were harder to come by in the opener, with the game beginning with two-and-a-half scoreless frames. Against the grain, Taylor went ahead 1-0 as Agre walked and stole second before Grace Mullins doubled to left-center field to score the sophomore.
Marian (23-5, 13-3 CL) finally got rolling and piled on nine runs in the final four innings for a commanding 9-1 lead. Taylor tacked on two runs in the bottom of the seventh as Standridge drove in a run before Mullins scored on an error.
Taylor (20-10, 9-7 CL) continues Crossroads League action on Tuesday, April 1, against Goshen (8-16, 4-10 CL), with action beginning at 4:00 pm.
