2018-2019 Honors Page

The Trojans picked up a host of honors and awards for the 2018-2019 year with 52 Crossroads League, Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference and Mid-States Football Association Player-of-the-Week honors, four NAIA National Player-of-the-Week nods, 121 All-Crossroads League, All-MSFA or All-WHAC awards, 117 Academic All-Crossroads, All-MSFA or All-WHAC honors, 107 NAIA Scholar-Athletes, 28 CoSIDA Academic All-District selections, eight CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, three CL Player-of-the-Year awards, seven All-Region nods, 28 NAIA All-American honors and 22 individual Crossroads League Championships.

Taylor coaches also continued to reach milestones throughout the year, highlighted by Jody Martinez being named the WBCA National NAIA Women's Basketball Coach of the Year, Quinn White becoming the all-time winningest coach in the history of the TU women's cross country program on October 20 with the team's first-place finish and Kyle Gould recording his 500th win as TU's head baseball coach. TU also had four coaches named the Crossroads League Coach of the Year, with Quinn White taking the honor in women's cross country for the sixth-straight year, Rod Waters claiming the award in his first season with TU women's indoor track, Jody Martinez claiming the honor for the first time with Taylor women's basketball and Cameron Andry taking the award for the third-straight year in women's golf and a fourth-straight year in men's golf. White also collected a trio of regional honors, being named the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year and the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region Women's Indoor and Outdoor Track Assistant Coach of the Year. Andry was honored for a second-straight year as the NAIA North Region Coach of the Year for men's golf.

TU's teams also had plenty of success, with the women's golf program firing its best 18 and 36-hole totals in program history, the women's cross country program racing to its fastest team time and best-ever finish at Nationals in program history and the women's basketball team setting a single-game record with 20 made threes in its Senior Day win, taking the most Top-25 wins in program history, winning the most games in program history and posting the longest win streak in program history. Women's cross country, women's basketball and women's golf also achieved their highest rating in the NAIA Top-25 Poll in school history and women's cross country secured its sixth-straight Crossroads League Championship. Women's indoor track also claimed a second-straight Crossroads League Championship and women's basketball secured its first Crossroads League Championships since 1998. Women's golf claimed its third-straight CL Championship and men's golf won the CL Championship for a fourth-straight year. Taylor also scored several wins over Top-25 foes, with women's basketball taking out No. 6, Marian, 7 Marian, No. 16 Indiana Wesleyan twice, No. 18 Saint Francis, 18 Olivet Nazarene, No. 23 Corban, No. 24 Huntington, No. 24 Rio Grande and No. 25 Saint Francis, men's basketball downing No. 5 Marian, No. 19 Saint Francis and No. 23 Spring Arbor, baseball taking three-of-four against nationally-ranked Indiana Tech and softball bouncing No. 13 IWU twice.

Taylor had 13 teams receive attention in the NAIA Top-25 Polls, as women's cross country opened at No. 2, women's golf opened at No. 7 and men's golf opened at No. 8 for their highest preseason ratings in program history. Men's cross country, women's soccer, women's basketball, women's indoor track, men's indoor track, baseball, men's outdoor track and women's outdoor track also cracked the Top-25. Men's lacrosse and softball also received votes in the national rankings.

The Trojans also had 17 teams get a taste of postseason play, with men's and women's tennis, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country, volleyball, men's and women's indoor track, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, softball, baseball and men's and women's outdoor track each competing past the regular season. TU sent 10 teams to NAIA Nationals, with women's cross country taking third, men's golf ending ninth, women's indoor track finishing 11th, women's golf taking 12th, men's cross country ending 16th, men's indoor track and field placing 25th, women's outdoor track and field placing 25th, men's outdoor track and field taking 57th, women's basketball earning a No. 2 seed and advancing to the Elite Eight in the National Tournament and softball claiming its third-ever NAIA Opening Round win.

The Trojans closed the 2018-2019 year ranked No. 18 among all NAIA institutions in the Learfield Sports Director's Cup standings, marking a second-straight year ranked inside the top-20 in the nation. Full release here.

For the seventh-straight year, each of Taylor's varsity athletics programs were named NAIA Scholar-Teams for posting a team GPA of 3.0 and above. Among schools to see 100 percent of their teams honored, Taylor ranked No. 1 with 19 Scholar-Teams. TU was also second with 15 teams at or above the 3.20 mark, had three teams among the Top-100 overall in the NAIA and had 14 teams ranked inside the Top-25 in their respective sport.
