Taylor Men's Lacrosse Dominates in Program Opener
BELLEVILLE, Ill. – Taylor's first-ever varsity men's lacrosse game could not have gone any better for the Purple and Gold as the Trojans blasted Lindenwood by a 26-1 margin for the program's first victory.
Taylor overwhelmed the Lynx (0-2) in all phases of the game on Saturday, outshooting the hosts by a 59-12 margin, scooping up 37 more ground balls and winning 26-of-29 faceoffs. TU also registered 13 successful clears in 15 tries and converted on five-of-six extra-man opportunities.
The Trojans wasted no time getting started and rolled up an 11-0 cushion by the end of the first quarter and a commanding 17-0 lead by halftime.
Tyler Gerig led the relentless onslaught for Taylor, closing with 10 goals and two assists, while putting 13-of-18 shots on frame. Grant Gerig added four goals and Teegan Heiniger also netted four goals to go with a team-leading 12 ground balls and 22 faceoff wins in 24 chances.
Several other Trojans had busy afternoons, with Josiah Peterson adding three goals and one assist, Nathan Sahly scoring twice and picking up nine ground balls and Ian McClain dishing out a team-best five assists to go with one goal.
Next up for Taylor (1-0) will be the first home game in program history, when it hosts Clarke (1-0) on Saturday, March 9 at 1:00 pm.
