Chesser and Jones Take MSFA Weekly Nods
UPLAND, Ind. – TU's Jameson Chesser and Aven Jones were each recognized by the Mid-States Football Association on Monday, with Chesser being named the MSFA Mideast League Offensive Player of the Week and Jones repeating as the MSFA Mideast League Defensive Player of the Week.
Chesser set a Taylor program record with seven rushing touchdowns and posted 143 rushing yards on 26 carries in TU's 58-36 win over Saint Francis on Homecoming. Chesser powered the Trojan offense throughout the day, finding the end zone twice in the first quarter, three times in the third and two more times in the fourth.
Jones posted his second-straight game with at least 17 hits, this time tallying 14 solo stops among his 17 tackles and adding one sack, two forced fumbles and two quarterback hurries. One of those pressures led directly to an intentional grounding call in the end zone and two points on the board for TU via the ensuing safety.
The strong output from Chesser and Jones helped the duo climb the NAIA leaderboard, as Chesser closed the week No. 2 with 14 rushing touchdowns and No. 2 with 712 rushing yards, while Jones sat No. 1 with 76 total tackles on the season.
With the two honors, Taylor now boasts 15 weekly league awards for the 2024-2025 year, with 11 of those coming from the TU football program.
The MSFA Player-of-the-Week honor is the second for Chesser and the fifth for Jones, with both awards for Chesser and four awards for Jones happening this fall.
Chesser, Jones and the Trojans (5-1, 1-0 MSFA) will have a bye week prior to traveling across county to take on No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan (5-1, 1-0 MSFA) in a 4:00 pm start.
