Trojans Downed by Hot-Shooting Wildcats
UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor could not keep pace with the No. 9 Indiana Wesleyan offense on Wednesday night, falling 104-72 in a fast-paced high-scoring affair.
The opening eight minutes saw the teams trade baskets in a fast-paced high-scoring start. Jackson Ullom had eight of his 13 in the first six minutes, with a triple giving Taylor a 16-13 lead at the 14:10 mark of the first half. Jackson Lewis came off the bench and scored four quick points to keep the Trojans in the lead with a 21-19 scoreline with 11:47 left until the break.
IWU continued its hot-shooting half with a 30-5 run over the next seven-plus minutes in which they made 11 of 13 field goals, including four of five from behind the arc.
The Trojans went into the locker room down 57-35 after the Wildcats (14-2, 5-1 CL) shot 66.7 percent from the field and 53.3 percent from downtown in the opening half.
Kaden Fuhrmann hit a jumper, and Caleb Hodgson knocked down a three-pointer to start the second half, but any hope of a comeback was quickly put out with a 21-8 run by the Wildcats to push the lead to over 30.
The benches cleared for both teams down the stretch, and the Trojans finished on a 10-2 run, which featured five of Izaiah Day's second-career double-digit scoring effort as the freshman finished with 10 points.
Both squads had 11 different players score in the game, and Anton Webb led the game with 12 rebounds. Hodgson led the Trojans with 14 points while adding three boards and two assists.
Taylor (6-10, 1-5 CL) will look to bounce back when they travel to face Goshen (0-16, 0-6 CL) on Saturday, January 13, with tip-off set for 3:00 pm.
