Trojans Drop Overtime Affair at Lourdes
OTTAWA HILLS, Ohio. – The Taylor men's lacrosse team suffered a gut-wrenching defeat on Saturday at Lourdes, dropping an 11-10 match in overtime.
Neither side led by more than one goal in the first half, with the first multi-goal lead coming on the back of three-straight strikes by Lourdes (4-6, 1-5 WHAC) to close the third period with a 9-7 edge.
The hosts scored first in the fourth as well, building a 10-7 lead, but Taylor got goals from Carter Prieditis, Will Saxby and Reid Gerig in the final 6:05 of the contest to draw even. The equalizer came from Gerig with 2:23 left in regulation.
TU's momentum was ended at the start of the overtime however, as the Trojans were called for an illegal equipment penalty before the extra session started and Lourdes capitalized with a man-up goal to secure the 11-10 win.
Saxby, Caleb Williams and Wyatt Marshall led Taylor with two goals each, while Aidan Craig had one goal and five assists. The five helpers moved Craig to 61 for the season and just seven shy of matching the WHAC's single-season record of 68.
Prieditis was also busy with one goal and seven ground balls, and Carlton Best aided the TU attack by winning 13 of his 20 faceoffs.
Taylor (4-9, 1-5 WHAC) will play at Wheeler Field for the final time this season when it hosts Michigan-Dearborn (4-8, 2-4 WHAC) in a 3:00 pm start on Wednesday, April 17.
