SYLVANIA, Ohio – Facing its toughest foe of the young season proved too much for a short-handed Taylor squad in its WHAC opener, as TU dropped a 21-4 decision at No. 9 Lourdes on Saturday.
The Gray Wolves (5-1, 1-0 WHAC) found the net seven times in the opening quarter and took a 14-1 lead to the intermission. Taylor connected on three goals in the second half but never mounted a serious threat of a comeback.
The final stats were not as lopsided as the 17-goal margin, but Lourdes did fire off 23 more shots than the Purple and Gold, while holding a 37-25 edge in ground balls. Taylor committed eight more turnovers than the hosts and the two sides split 28 faceoffs.
Taylor got single goals from Josiah Peterson, Ian McClain, Zane Hedayat and Nathan Sahly, with Sahly also adding nine ground balls, two caused turnovers and five faceoff wins. Teegan Heiniger added an assist and four ground balls to go with nine faceoff wins.
TU (2-1, 0-1 WHAC) will return home to take on Michigan-Dearborn (0-4, 0-0 WHAC) on Saturday, March 30 at 1:00 pm.
