UPLAND, Ind. – In a rain-soaked rematch of a 12-9 Taylor win against Mount Vernon Nazarene from two weeks prior, Taylor never got on track Saturday against the Cougars and fell by a 10-4 score.
The Trojans never led in the contest, falling in a 4-0 deficit before finally finding the back of the net on a Wyatt Marshall shot with 1:41 left in the first half.
Alex Blum cut the MVNU (5-2) lead to 4-2 with a strike deep into the third period, but the guests score the game's next three and netted five of the final seven strikes of the day to pull away.
Taylor ended the game plus-nine in shots and plus-10 in ground balls, while winning 12-of-18 faceoffs but were frustrated by 28 turnovers and 18 saves form the MVNU goalie.
Four different Trojans scored one goal each, with Marshall, Blum, Aidan Craig and Reid Gerig each finding the scoring column. Craig also notched one assist and matched Teegan Heiniger for a team-high with seven ground balls.
Taylor (2-4) will play again at home on Saturday, March 26, when it opens conference play against Madonna (0-1) in a 1:00 pm start at Wheeler Field.
