ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Nic Richardson scored two early goals for a quick 2-0 Taylor lead and later added a pair of assists on Saturday at Concordia, but it was not enough for the Trojans to avoid a 20-7 loss.
Richardson found the back of the CU (2-7, 2-3 WHAC) goal just 49 seconds into the day and repeated the feat at the 12:55 mark of the opening period for a two-goal Trojan lead. Richardson then dished the assist on an Alex Blum goal in the final minute to send TU to the second period in a 5-3 deficit, after stopping a string of five-straight goals from the hosts.
The Cardinal lead swelled to 9-3 with four more unanswered tallies in the second and they put the game away with a 5-0 scoring edge in the third.
Taylor was outshot in the contest by 15 and put only 18-percent of its 39 shots on target in the loss. The Trojans also struggled in faceoffs, winning just nine-of-29 and picking up 18 fewer ground balls than CU.
Richardson provided a boost with two goals, two assists and two ground balls, while Wyatt Marshall also scored twice. Blum, Reid Gerig and Holt Taylor secured the remaining three goals for Taylor, with Gerig putting four of his six shot on target and Blum adding one assist.
Taylor (2-9, 0-5 WHAC) is set to return to action on Wednesday, when it hosts No. 5 Aquinas (6-3, 4-1 WHAC) on Wednesday, April 13 at 4:00 pm.
