MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – A string of eight-unanswered goals allowed in the second half did in the Taylor men's lacrosse team in its season opener on Saturday at Mount Vernon Nazarene, as TU lost by a 14-9 margin.
Taylor held and early edge of 2-1 and used a goal from Ethan Johns and two strikes from Reid Gerig to close the half with a 6-5 lead.
Another Gerig score again lifted TU to a one-goal lead early in the third, but MVNU rattled off the next eight strikes to take control and finished off a 14-9 victory to move to 4-0 on the young season.
The hosts fired off 20 more shots than the Trojans and held a 29-17 advantage in ground balls to help control possession.
Gerig led the way for the Taylor attack with three goals and one assist, while Aidan Craig ended with two goals and two helpers. Johns also scored twice and Carter Prieditis dished out two assists.
Taylor (0-1) will return to action on Thursday, February 23 when it plays a neutral field game against No. 5 Saint Ambrose (0-2) at 11:00 am at Grand Park.
