Shaw Stands Strong to Secure 0-0 Draw Against Madonna
LIVONIA, Mich. –Taylor (3-1-1) traveled to Livonia, Michigan, to play Madonna (3-0-2) on Tuesday afternoon and salvaged a 0-0 draw thanks to four saves from Connor Shaw.
The Trojans struggled to get a foothold in the match during the first half as Madonna fired seven shots and forced Shaw into his first save of the afternoon. The defense was there to help Shaw as well, blocking four shots in the contest.
Carlos Sanabria and the TU offense started to get more control in the second half, and Sanabria fired a pair of shots, which both went wide. Taylor took all six of its corners after halftime as the Trojans were able to push up the field.
Shaw saved his best for the second half when he snuffed out three chances for the Crusaders, including a close-range one-on-one attempt with ten minutes to go in the match. The four saves for Shaw are a career-high and should give him confidence going forward during his freshman season for the Trojans.
TU had a trio of corners in the final five minutes of action but could not convert any of them into a shot and the all-important goal in a defensive struggle.
Taylor continues to play on the road with a matchup against Aquinas (1-0-0) set for Saturday, September 7, and kick-off scheduled for 4:00 pm.
