LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Taylor (0-2) opened the season in Georgia with a pair of losses. The opening game was a lopsided defeat against No. 4 Georgia Gwinnett before Taylor was unable to hold the lead in a 6-5 loss to Lindsey Wilson to end the night.
Jersey Tannehill had a solid start to her senior season, notching three hits and three RBI throughout the games. Delaynee McCreary was a pest on the basepaths, stealing three bases as the Trojans stole seven throughout the day.
The Trojans started their second game with a big first inning, plating four runs by capitalizing on a pitcher with no control, drawing a pair of walks, and getting hit by three pitches.
TU scored their only other run of the contest in the top of the third as Madisyn Standridge reached on an error and promptly stole second. Tannehill laced a single to drive her in and push the lead to 5-1.
The Blue Raiders chipped away at the lead with a run in each of the fourth and sixth innings to close the deficit to 5-3.
The first three batters reached to load the bases before getting the first out of the inning. A fielders' choice put the Trojans' lead at the narrowest of margins but only one out away from victory. A double down the line let the Blue Raiders walk off the field as winners, plating two runs on the play.
The season opener proved tough against No. 4 Georgia Gwinnett, with the Trojans falling 6-1 to the home team.
The Grizzlies got on the board in the bottom of the first after a leadoff triple scored two batters later on a groundout. The bottom of the third was the deciding inning as Georgia Gwinnett scored five runs on five hits, including a bases-clearing triple.
TU saw three freshmen make their debuts in the top of the seventh and helped score the lone run of the contest for the Trojans. Emri Agre pinch ran for Delaney Barton after a leadoff single and stole second before scoring on a rip up the middle by Tannehill.
Katie Kottlowski came in relief and held the Grizzlies scoreless in three innings inside the circle. The sophomore struck out four batters, all looking, out of nine faced.
Taylor gets a rematch with both No. 4 Georgia Gwinnett (2-0) and Lindsey Wilson (1-1) tomorrow. The Trojans begin with the Blue Raiders at 2:00 pm, with the game against the Grizzlies set to take place about 30 minutes after the conclusion of the opening game.
