FORT WAYNE – The No. 19 Taylor women's golf team blew away the field at its season-opening tournament, posting a first-place team score of 604 over the two-day Battle at Brookwood to post an 81-shot gap over the next-best team.
Taylor posted a round of 307 in Monday's action, before following with a 297 on Tuesday to secure the win. TU's 604 was followed by Huntington (685) and Spring Arbor (692) in the team standings.
The individual leaderboard reflected TU's dominance, with all five Trojans in the lineup sweeping the top-five spots at the event and two others competing as individuals taking the next two positions. Shayne Lim and Margarita Garrido tied for the top spot with 36-hole totals of 150, while Ellie Beavins took third at 151 and the freshmen duo of Abby Rich and Eleanor Schuitema tied for fifth at 154. Competing as individuals, Ellie Karst and Hope Haarer tied for sixth with scores of 163.
For the tournament, there were only 13 single-round, sub-80 scores, with Taylor accounting for 12 of those marks after Lim, Garrido, Beavins, Rich and Schuitema each did so twice and Karst and Harrer did so once.
No. 19 Taylor will continue its fall season on September 6 and 7 at the Players Club Invitational in Yorktown, Indiana.
