No. 19 Trojans Take First-Round Lead at Purgatory Intercollegiate

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – No. 19 Taylor closed play on Friday with a first-round lead over No. 15 Indiana Wesleyan at the two-day Purgatory Intercollegiate, setting the stage for a two-team race over Saturday's competition.

The Trojans posted a score of 317, followed closely by IWU's 320, with no other varsity team placing within 30 strokes. The individual standings were dominated by those two teams as well, with each of the top-seven competitors coming from TU or Indiana Wesleyan.

Margarita Garrido led the way for Taylor, shooting a 77 to finish in second place and just two shots off the lead. Shayne Lim and Eleanor Schuitema tied for third at 79 and Ellie Beavins ended in a tie for sixth at 82.

No. 19 TU will look to claim its fifth team title of the season and the second in two outings this spring when it plays the final 18 homes on Saturday.
