TU Men’s Golf Picks Up Two CSC Academic All-Americans
AUSTIN, Texas – The CSC NAIA Men's At-Large Academic All-Americans were announced recently, in which a duo of Trojans earned the prestigious award. The CSC unveiled its list of 15 First-Team and 15 Second-Team At-Large Academic All-Americans recently, recognizing the top men's student-athletes from around the NAIA from the sports of lacrosse, rifle, skiing, fencing, swimming, tennis, golf, volleyball, gymnastics, water polo, hockey, wrestling and competitive cheer.
Javan Johnson and Noah Ross became the first two Trojan golfers to be named First-Team CSC Academic All-Americans, after Ross was named to the Second-Team a year ago.
Johnson and Ross helped Taylor to its highest national ranking in program history this season at No. 6, while winning seven-of-13 tournaments and taking 15th at the NAIA National Championships and runner-up at the Crossroads League Championships.
Ross earned his second-straight nod to the CSC Academic All-American Team after taking All-America honors one year ago. The senior entered his final semester with a 3.90 GPA in politics, philosophy and economics and then proceeded to average 73.3 shots per round and secure 10 finishes inside the top-five.
Johnson closed his remarkable career at Taylor with his first CSC Academic All-American selection after posting a 3.50 GPA in sport management. The senior averaged 73.1 shots per round and scored six wins during his 2022-2023 campaign.
Taylor student-athletes have now combined for 130 CSC Academic All-American honors in school history, with 128 of those awards coming since 2010. Taylor men's golf has now accounted for three CSC All-Americans and two First-Team selections.
The CSC Academic All-American distinction is designed to recognize student-athletes for outstanding achievements, both in the classroom and on the field. To receive the honor, an athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.0 scale, must have achieved sophomore status academically with at least one full year at their current institution, and must have participated in over half of the team's competitions as a key contributor during the current season.
Student-athletes are nominated for the award by their institution's Sports Information Department and voted on by members of CSC.
