TU Men’s Golf Closes Fall with Strong Showing at Whistling Straits
SHEBOYGAN, Wis. – Playing for the final time during its fall season, the No. 12 Taylor men's golf team headed north to play a loaded field at the two-day Whistling Straits Intercollegiate in Wisconsin.
The Trojans battled tough playing conditions that elevated scores through the opening day and came in with a 328, which was good for second place in the 15-team field. TU's opening round score placed Taylor two shots up on No. 1 Keiser and seven up on No. 5 Bellevue as the top NAIA team in the standings.
The course yielded much lower scores on Tuesday, with Taylor dropping to a 309 over the second 18 but falling back two spots to fourth in the final standings. TU ended at 677 and nine strokes back of top-ranked Keiser for the best NAIA finish in the field. Taylor edged No. 5 Bellevue by five shots and also finished ahead of three other teams receiving votes in the NAIA Top-25.
Will Schuitema led the field after day one with a 76 and finished the event in 16th to lead all Trojans at the tourney. Austin Davis and Lance VanErmen followed in 20th, with VanErmen's Tuesday score of 74 giving TU its best individual round over the two days. Kyle Kasitz rounded out Taylor's top-four by ending in 25th.
