AUSTIN, Texas – Riley Massey was named a Google Cloud Second-Team Academic All-American on Monday, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
The sophomore defender played an important role on the back line for TU, drawing a start in all 19 matches. Massey helped Taylor to seven shutouts and 12 wins, as the team earned a trip to the NAIA National Championship Tournament for the first time in program history. A tall 5-10 frame and powerful leg from Massey also gave TU an additional weapon on offense. The Loveland, Ohio native stepped up from her defender position to deliver five goals and two assists, including a free kick score from 43 yards out.
In the classroom, Massey was just as dominant, boasting a 4.0 grade-point average with a major in exercise science.
Massey is the ninth selection in Taylor women's soccer history to be named an Academic All-American. The Trojans now tout 86 Academic All-Americans in school history, with 45 First-Team honors.
The CoSIDA Google Cloud All-America award is voted on by members of CoSIDA, recognizing the finest student-athletes from around the nation at NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions. A student-athlete must be nominated by their Sports Information Director, must have reached sophomore status academically with a 3.30 cumulative GPA and must be a key contributor during the current season in order to be eligible for the honor.
