Massey Garners First CL Weekly Award of Season
Crossroads League Release | TU Honors Page
JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League announced its first collection of weekly honors for women's soccer on Monday, with TU's Claire Massey being named the CL Defensive Player of the Week for her performance in Taylor's season-opening victory against Asbury University.
While Massey was named Defensive Player of the Week, it was her offense that made the crowd's collective jaw drop on Saturday. The sophomore defender scored two goals, both from beyond 25 yards out. Massey's two goals not only served as the first of the season but also the first of her career, earning the Ohio native her first career multi-goal game.
Along with her remarkable offensive play, Massey was a significant contributor toward TU's dominating defensive effort. The Trojans hounded Asbury all afternoon, preventing the Eagles from taking a single shot, let alone land any on goal.
This week's Crossroads League Defensive Player-of-the-Week award is the first CL weekly honor that Massey has earned in her time at TU.
Massey and the Trojans (1-0-0) return to action on Wednesday, September 1, at 5:00 pm, when they take on Trinity Christian College (1-0-0) in Palos Heights, Illinois.
