UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor (3-0) continued its perfect start to the season, Wednesday afternoon, with a 2-1 victory over the visiting IU-East Red Wolves (0-2-2).
The victory was Taylor's seventeenth-straight victory in non-league play, dating back to the 2019 season.
TU continued to put pressure on its opponents, launching 27 shots in the match, with 13 of those on target, with Claire Massey and Kiana Siefert leading the way with five and six shots respectively.
After dominating possession in the early going, Taylor scored the match's first goal in the 17th minute. Emma Goebel took a corner and sent it to the far side of the field, where Audrey Grimm controlled it and sent a cross back to Goebel, who sent a rocket from the middle of the box into the back of the net to give TU a 1-0 lead.
IU-East leveled the game quickly after halftime in the 49th minute. The Red Wolves took a corner kick and Tori Martino had her initial shot saved by Hannah Brackenbury, before Sarah Curry slotted home the rebound to tie the match at 1-1.
Taylor did not have to wait long to retake the lead though, scoring a goal in the 61st minute. After a bout of possession, Claire Nieshalla sent a pass to Sydney Thompson down the right wing, who promptly crossed the ball deep to Siefert, who had plenty of time and space, and subsequently launched a shot from a difficult angle on the far-left side of the field. The ball sailed over the keeper and off the far post into the net for Siefert's third goal in as many games, giving the Trojans a 2-1 lead.
The defense for TU kept the lead after that, with Brackenbury notching three saves in the match.
Taylor will look to continue the great start to the season next Thursday, September 8th, inside Turner Stadium against The Master's University (0-3-1), with kick-off coming at 7:00 pm.
