Comeback Bid Falls Short Against Aquinas
UPLAND, Ind. – A second-half comeback bid fell short for Taylor (1-1) on Wednesday night against Aquinas (2-0), falling 70-60 after getting as close as four points in the final three minutes.
Jason Hubbard climbed into eighth place in TU's all-time scoring chart, posting 19 points and 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the young season. The 19 points put him at 1,816 in his career in purple and gold.
The Trojans stormed back from a 13-point deficit after Kaden Fuhrmann and Hubbard nailed threes to get the Trojans within four with three minutes remaining. The Saints tallied the final six points from the free throw line to put the game away in the final minute.
The Trojans started the game brightly, grabbing an early seven-point lead after two buckets from Gavin Yoon and a Hubbard jumper brought the score to 9-2.
A back-and-forth first half ended in the Saints' favor after they made the final two buckets to take a two-point lead into halftime.
A three from Yoon and a dunk from Hubbard got the crowd back into the game near the midway point of the half, as the comeback bid began.
Taylor struggled at the charity stripe, connecting on seven of 14 tries while making only seven of 26 attempts from beyond the arc.
Yoon continued his bright start to the season, notching 17 points and five rebounds. Yoon continues to be a sharpshooter for TU splashing in five triples on ten attempts. Another key contributor was Jeff Clayton, who was efficient in the paint tonight, scoring eight points on four shots while grabbing two steals and tallying a block.
Taylor will look to bounce back on Friday, November 4, when it takes the court against RV West Virginia Tech (0-1) inside Odle Arena, with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 pm.
