
Offense Stays Hot as Trojans Shoot Past Cougars in Fast-Paced Affair

UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor (9-12, 4-7 CL) continued its hot shooting to power past Mount Vernon Nazarene, 85-74, on Wednesday night inside Odle Arena. The win pushed TU above MVNU (13-8, 3-8 CL) in the Crossroads League standings.
All four starters scored in double digits for the Trojans, who hit 14 triples a game after splashing home 18, for a two-game total of 32. Kaden Fuhrmann led TU in scoring for the fifth-consecutive game with 17, and he was followed closely by Jackson Ullom with 16. Ullom was especially efficient in the first half, scoring 13 points on eight shots from the field.
Anton Webb recorded an impressive stat line in the post with 15 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, and a block. Webb took only seven shots from the field and nailed his only shot from beyond the arc to join the party from deep.
Izaiah Day is embracing his chance in the starting lineup, knocking down four shots from downtown for 15 points. Day's presence on the defensive end was felt all night as he swatted a career-high three shots and grabbed three defensive rebounds.
Jackson Lewis was the final starter in double digits with 11 while dishing out eight assists for the second-straight contest this time without committing a turnover. The starters were supplemented by a solid night by Caleb Hodgson off the bench, who scored eight and grabbed six boards.
The Trojans came out firing, knocking down their first two shots from behind the arc to help build an early lead. MVNU got within two before TU went on a 13-2 run, which extended to a 32-11 run to build its largest lead of the night at 23. The Cougars scored the final seven points of the half to cut it to 47-31 going into the locker room.
MVNU went on a 10-0 run early in the second half to cut the lead to four, but TU quickly scored five points and kept its opponents at arm's length for the rest of the evening. Taylor struggled from the charity stripe to help keep the Cougars close but hit enough to have a comfortable advantage.
The offense had another terrific evening, shooting over 55 percent from the field and 50 percent from range, with six players knocking down a triple. The ball movement was phenomenal showcased by 20 assists on 30 buckets.
Taylor travels to Marian (15-6, 5-6 CL) on Saturday, February 3, looking to keep its momentum, with tip-off scheduled for 3:00 pm.
