Shooting Struggles Derail Trojans
UPLAND, Ind. – A 10-2 run in the middle of the second half was not enough for Taylor (3-4, 0-2 CL) to overcome shooting 33.3 percent from the field against No. 14 Indiana Wesleyan (5-3, 2-0 CL) in a 68-49 defeat.
A strong start to the second half breathed hope into the Trojan faithful. Two Jackson Ullom three-point baskets followed by a bucket by Jason Hubbard brought the score to 50-46 with less than eight minutes remaining, which brought the crowd to its feet.
TU missed two opportunities to get closer before the Wildcats ended the game on an 18-3 run, in which the Trojans shot just 1-10 from the field and turned the ball over three times.
Indiana Wesleyan jumped out of the gate to an early 15-6 lead before back-to-back buckets from beyond the arc by Jackson Lewis and Ullom ignited an 8-0 run to get within a point.
A bucket by Jeff Clayton tied the game at 21 three minutes later before the Wildcats closed out the half on a 17-5 run to take a 12-point lead into halftime.
Taylor struggled to score inside the arc, connecting on just 32 percent of shots from two-point range. The three-point territory was kinder to the home side, who knocked down seven triples, including three by Ullom.
Hubbard continued his ascent up the Taylor scoring charts, scoring 12 points in Tuesday's contest to sit in sixth place with 1,914 career points for the Trojans.
Anton Webb had another terrific night off the bench, stuffing the stat sheet with 12 points, eight rebounds, two blocks, and two steals.
After a break for Thanksgiving, Taylor continues Crossroads League action on Wednesday, November 30, on the road against RV Huntington (6-1, 2-0 CL), with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 pm.
