Hubbard Soars to Fifth on Taylor's All-Time Scoring List in Defeat
MISHAWAKA, Ind. – Jason Hubbard scored 11 points to pass Mason Degenkolb (2016-2020), who scored 1,940 points for TU, for fifth place on Taylor's All-time scoring list in an 81-59 defeat against RV Bethel (8-2, 3-1 CL).
The Miamisburg native collected 11 points, seven of which came after halftime to amass 1,950 career points for TU (4-5, 1-3 CL). Hubbard began the season in eleventh but has quickly risen to fifth by scoring 180 points in the first nine games for the Trojans.
The senior now sits 50 points shy of becoming Taylor's fifth and the Crossroads League's 60th player to reach 2,000 career points and trails Eric Ford for fourth place at TU by 73 points.
The Trojans briefly took a 6-2 lead to begin the game, but a 19-6 run from the Pilots put them in the driver's seat.
A Grant Niehaus layup with six minutes remaining in the first half cut the lead to six before Bethel stretched it to 15 by the end of the period. Niehaus totaled 12 points in the contest.
TU's offense came alive in the second half, hitting four triples, all by Gavin Yoon, who led the Trojans with 14 points. Even so, Taylor never got the lead down to single digits, getting within 11 points multiple times throughout the half.
Anton Webb provided nine points, six boards, and three blocks from the bench in just 16 minutes. Freshman Nate Paarlberg had his highest-scoring game with seven points off the bench as he continues to play well in a limited role.
Taylor goes back to non-league action briefly next Friday, December 9, for its 25th annual Ivanhoes Silent Night game against Miami-Middletown (4-4), with tip-off scheduled for 6:00 pm.
