Bethel Blitzes Taylor to Spoil Senior Day
UPLAND, Ind. – After honoring seniors, Jason Hubbard and Jeff Clayton before the game, the Trojans struggled with the fast-paced nature of the game against Bethel, falling 77-49.
Jason Hubbard continued his incredible season, scoring 22 points and grabbing 12 rebounds for his tenth double-double this year. Anton Webb was one point and one rebound away from a double-double, securing nine apiece. Both Webb and Hubbard blocked two shots on the defensive end.
Hubbard climbed into 15th place on the Crossroads League all-time scoring list during today's game.
The pace of the game was frantic from the get-go as both teams raced to the basket. A Hubbard dunk gave TU an 8-7 advantage less than three minutes into the action.
The teams traded baskets for the next five minutes, as neither team led by more than one, and the lead changed seven times.
A Webb bucket cut the lead to five at 26-21 before the Pilots started to run away with the game.
Bethel (17-10, 9-8 CL) scored the last 13 points of the half as Taylor missed its final eight shots while turning the ball over three times during the run.
The Trojans got no closer than 17 in the second half as every mini-run of Taylor was met with a basket by the Pilots.
TU shot below 30 percent from the field and below 15 percent from beyond the arc for Taylor's lowest shooting percentage of the season.
Gavin Yoon hit two threes and collected nine points to tie Webb for the second most on the team today.
Taylor (13-14, 7-10 CL) warps up the regular season on the road in Indianapolis against RV Marion (19-8, 9-8 CL) next Saturday, February 18, with tip-off set for 3:00 pm.
