Taylor Drops Back-and-Forth Battle Against Ohio Christian
UPLAND, Ind. – The Trojans dropped a tight contest on Tuesday afternoon, which saw over 20 lead changes, against Ohio Christian, 78-74.
The teams exchanged the lead throughout the first five minutes of action before the Trailblazers took an 8-7 lead, which they kept hold of for most of the remainder of the first half.
Taylor continued to see every big basket by Jackson Ullom, who led TU with 12 first-half points on three triples and a trio of free throws, answered on the other end until Anton Webb drained two free throws to knot the game at 33.
The teams exchanged 5-0 runs before a basket by OCU saw them go into the locker room with a narrow 40-38 advantage.
Kaden Fuhrmann came out of the break on fire, scoring ten of his 19 points in the first four minutes, which gave the Trojans a five-point lead, their largest of the afternoon.
The Trailblazers ripped off six-straight points to take the lead back, and after a brief lead from Taylor, OCU held the lead for the next four minutes.
Wes Hunt, who tallied seven rebounds and four points off the bench, capped a 7-0 run from the Trojans with a putback. The run gave TU a slim 64-62 lead, which the Trojans kept until three free throws notched the game at 68.
The teams traded the lead for the final four minutes before the Trailblazers (4-9) hit a jumper with 17 seconds left.
A shot at the rim in the final seconds did not go down for the Trojans, and two free throws sealed the game for OCU.
Webb notched another double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds but was inefficient at the charity stripe. The struggles at the line cost the Trojans as they hit only 50 percent of the 20 attempts from the free throw line.
Taylor (5-7, 0-3 CL) is off until Saturday, December 30, when they take on West Virginia Tech (7-3) on the road, with tip-off scheduled for 1:00 pm.
