Early Goal Not Enough in Tough Loss Against RV Grace
UPLAND, Ind. –Taylor had an early lead evaporate in a tough loss on Saturday, 2-1 in a physical match against Crossroads League foe RV Grace (2-5-2, 1-1-0 CL).
The Trojans converted early against the Lancers in a hotly contested match inside Turner Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Trojans took full advantage of their first corner, with Justin Devlin delivering a terrific cross to the front post. Carlos Sanabria made an intelligent run through the box and got his head to it before anyone else to guide it into the back of the net. The goal for Sanabria was the second in as many matches for the sophomore.
The lead did not hold up long, unfortunately, as the Lancers found the equalizer off a corner in the 25th minute.
The teams seemed destined to go into the locker room all level at one, but with less than two minutes left until the break Grace scored again to turn the match completely around in the first half.
The Lancers used the late momentum to take control of the match in the second half, keeping the ball in their attacking half for most of the first 25 minutes after halftime.
Taylor had a pair of corner kicks with under twenty minutes left in the match and came close to equalizing with a shot blocked before another was saved to deny the equalizer for TU.
The Trojans had a pair of shots in the final ten minutes, but neither found the back of the net leading to a 2-1 defeat. Sam Spiegel recorded an impressive eight saves in the match.
Taylor (4-3-2, 0-1-1 CL) is back in action with another Crossroads League matchup on Wednesday, October 2, on the road against RV Marian (7-2-2, 0-1-1 CL).
